Food That Should Not to Be Consumed Along With Milk

Milk in itself is a complete nutrient package. Milk not only contains proteins, but also vitamins A, B1, B2, B12, D and minerals like potassium, magnesium etc. Milk is considered a complete diet in Ayurveda. Minerals and vitamins present in it are very beneficial for health, but one should be cautious as to what should and should not be eaten along with milk. According to Ayurveda, not every type of food item consumed with milk is considered beneficial. There are a number of foods that are harmful to the body if taken with milk.

Milk and fruits

Citrus fruits should not be consumed with milk because according to Ayurveda, sour substances can turn the milk poisonous. Taking milk and citrus fruits together has a bad effect on the digestive system. Apart from this, there is a possibility of developing problems like allergies and cough and cold. Many people take banana and milk together, which is not correct according to Ayurveda because both banana and milk increase phlegm (kapha). Consuming both together increases phlegm and has a bad effect on the digestion. But there are some sweet fruits that can be taken with milk. Such as apple, chikoo, carrot, mango etc. While having milk with mango, keep in mind that mango should be sweet and not sour. Apart from Amla, no sour fruit should be taken with milk. Milk should not be taken with watermelon too. Although watermelon comes in sweet fruits, but according to Ayurveda, the combination of milk and watermelon is not good, because this combination creates a lot of gas in the body than normal.

Milk and Radish –

Milk should not be taken with radish. If radish has been used in any food item, then milk should not be consumed immediately after this because by doing so milk can become toxic and there is a possibility of getting skin related diseases. Have milk only after at least two hours of eating things made from radish.

Milk and vegetables

Never have food items which have salt, lemon or other sour substances along with milk. Care is to be taken specially because salt, lemon and other sour substances are added to the vegetables. Consuming sour foods like salt, lemon and curd with milk puts one at a higher risk of getting skin infections. People who consume milk with sour substances like salt, lemon and curd are more prone to complaints of ringworm, itching, eczema, etc.

Milk and lentils

Do not consume any pulses like urad, moong, gram etc. with milk. One should keep a gap of about two hours between them. Taking milk with urad dal increases the risk of heart attack.

Milk and Bread and Butter –

Many people also eat bread and butter along with milk. One may find this combination very delicious but it can be harmful for you. They are rich in carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Due to this the food is not digested properly and there is a possibility of having indigestion and nausea.
